Background

The European Forum for Freedom in Education is an NGO in the field of education. We see our organisation as a forum in which all current issues concerning education at primary and secondary level can be discussed. The vision inspiring the work of the European Forum for Freedom in Education is that of a Europe of peaceful neighbourliness and cultural diversity in and between the single nations.

Our members are interested and active citizens from the educational sector; that includes teachers, schools, school-organisations, administrators and those involved in university life. We are open to pupils, parents, learners and teachers, in short everybody for whom plurality and autonomy in education are important matters. All members of effe stand for the right to education and to diversity and freedom in education. This applies to both the state-controlled and the independent sectors. The activity of effe members is based entirely on individual initiative. No member can be said to be representing any kind of organization or pressure group.

We put our trust in the initiative of the individual members and in the process that comes about through meeting and exchanging ideas. The resolve to work together naturally gives rise to mutual trust and a sense of responsibility. So we are in favour of initiatives in educational politics coming about in many different parts of Europe. The life and stimulus of diversity can often emerge from obscure corners and surprising places. It is taking small steps that interests us. Therefore, we make it our task to bring these small steps to the attention of a wider public. We are engaged in an active dialogue with the governments of many European countries, the European Union institutions and at innumerable international meetings.
